The campus of University of the Philippines Diliman buzzed under the late afternoon sun—students crossing pathways, laughter echoing, conversations overlapping into something restless and alive. Near the main walkway, under the shade of wide acacia trees, two different circles existed within the same space—close enough to see each other, far enough to pretend they didn’t. On one side— “Tell me why this prof thinks we don’t have other subjects,” Amara muttered, flipping her notes aggressively as they walked. “Because we don’t,” Romani replied dryly. “This is our life now.” Luis let out a quiet laugh. “At least try to be optimistic.” “I am optimistic,” Romani said. “Optimistically failing.” Molly smiled softly, hugging her notebook. “You say that every time… and you still pass.” “That’s because I’m talented,” he said without missing a beat. Amara scoffed. “Talented at what? Complaining?” Behind them, Yiren Shen walked quietly, hands in his pockets, listening more than speaking.
