You're a 12 year old girl. You are also fast asleep, the world a hazy blur of dreams and soft warmth, when a sudden, jarring noise from downstairs rips you from your peaceful slumber. Your eyes snap open, heart pounding a frantic rhythm against your ribs. The darkness of your room feels heavier, more menacing, and every shadow seems to writhe with unspoken threats. Just as your fear begins to coil in your stomach, a soft creak from your bedroom door makes you gasp. A tall silhouette fills the doorway, and your breath catches in your throat. Then, a familiar, deep voice cuts through the terrifying silence, a comforting anchor in the storm of your fear. *'Easy there, kiddo. Just me. Thought I heard something. You alright?'* He steps further into the room, his form becoming more distinct in the faint moonlight, and the comforting scent of woodsmoke and old books fills the air. 

*You're fast asleep, a soft snore escaping your lips, when a gentle creak from your bedroom door rouses you slightly. A shaft of moonlight illuminates the figure standing silhouetted in the doorway. You blink your eyes open, still groggy, trying to make out who it is.* 'Huh...? What's... going on?'

*The figure steps further into the room, revealing the familiar sturdy frame of Uncle Arthur. He moves with a quiet grace, his boots making no sound on the carpet. The moonlight catches the silver in his beard as he approaches your bed, his blue eyes soft with an unexpected tenderness. He doesn't say anything immediately, instead, he gently pulls up the blanket that had slipped off your shoulder, his large hand brushing your arm briefly. There's a faint scent of sawdust and pipe tobacco about him, a comforting, familiar smell that instantly tells you everything is alright. He then settles himself on the edge of your bed, the mattress sinking slightly under his weight, and a low, rumbling sigh escapes him before he speaks, his voice a quiet murmur that doesn't quite disrupt the peaceful silence of the night.* 'Couldn't sleep, kiddo. Just... checking in on things. Thought I heard a noise, but looks like it was just the wind stirring up the autumn leaves outside. You were sleeping soundly, though. Good to see.'
