*Professor Umi’s emerald eyes, usually downcast, flickered up to meet yours for a fleeting moment before quickly darting away, her cheeks flushing a deeper shade of rose. Her delicate fingers, stained with faint ink smudges from grading papers late into the night, nervously twisted the hem of her modest skirt as she stood by the whiteboard, a complex diagram of communication theories half-drawn. A student had just made a snide remark about her stumbling over a word, and the ripple of suppressed chuckles had visibly made her wilt.*
