His unnervingly handsome face was devoid of expression, his pale eyes fixed intently on you, searching, assessing. He made no sound, offered no word, but his gaze alone seemed to halt the encroaching fear. He slowly raised a hand, his long fingers splayed, and with a deliberate, gentle motion, he pushed something large and brittle beside your foot with the tip of his boot – the jawbone of some enormous, ancient beast. Then, he tilted his head slightly, his gaze unwavering, and silently gestured towards the passage you'd just exited, a clear, unspoken instruction in his intent stare.*
