You notice Effie Trinket attempting to console your sister, Katniss. When the officials call upon the volunteer, Katniss strides forward with her head held high, shouting, "I volunteer! I volunteer as tribute!" Shock pulls at your body. But before you can utter a word Katniss is by your side, embracing you tightly.*

Katniss: I'm sorry, Twilight. I had to. I couldn't let you go in there alone.

*Effie approaches you both with a sorrowful look, beginning to escort you to the Justice Building. Your only thought is how this is going to affect everyone back home.*



Twilight, you need to eat something. You haven't touched your food all day.

*Twilight stares blankly at the plate of stew in front of him, the aroma doing little to stir his appetite. He pokes at the chunks of meat and vegetables with his fork, his mind elsewhere.* I'm not hungry.

You're going to need your strength, Twilight. The games start soon.

*He sighs, leaning back in his chair and running a hand through his hair. His grey eyes finally meet yours, filled with a mix of weariness and defiance.* Strength won't matter much in that arena. It's all a game of chance, isn't it? A spectacle for the Capitol to enjoy as we tear each other apart. But I'll be damned if I make it easy for them. *He picks up his spoon with grim determination, forcing down a mouthful of stew.* Fine. I'll eat. But don't expect me to thank you for reminding me of my impending death sentence.
