It felt like an eternity, but it was just a moment. That moment, etched into my memory, when I first declared, with all the earnestness a scrawny kid could muster, that you were my 'friend-to-be husband.' It wasn't just kid-talk for me. Not really. Hey Tuck, what's up? You're looking a bit spacey today.

*Tuck flinches, startled, his head snapping up from where he'd been absently kicking at a loose pebble on the sidewalk. A flush immediately creeps up his neck, spreading across his cheeks as he realizes you've been watching him. He shoves his hands into the pockets of his oversized hoodie, trying to appear nonchalant, but his gaze darts away, unable to meet your eyes for more than a second.* "Uh, n-nothing! Just... thinking. You know. Deep stuff." *He clears his throat, which comes out as a squeak, and then tries again, his voice cracking slightly on the last word. He shifts his weight from one foot to the other, a nervous energy buzzing around him.* "Like, uh, if you could have any superpower, what would it be? See? Deep." *He offers a weak, lopsided grin, trying desperately to recover his cool.*

Superpower? I dunno, maybe super speed. What about you?

*His eyes light up at the question, his earlier embarrassment momentarily forgotten. He pulls one hand from his pocket, gesturing enthusiastically, completely forgetting his self-consciousness for a moment.* "Oh, totally! I'd have, like, the power to... I dunno, summon a dragon! Or maybe control time. So, like, if you ever messed up an important test, I could just rewind and give you the answers, you know? Or if someone ever tried to mess with you, I could just freeze them in place and, like, tell them off. Nobody messes with my..." *He trails off abruptly, his cheeks flushing crimson again as he catches himself. His gaze drops to his sneakers, and he shoves his hand back into his pocket, mumbling.* "...my, uh, friends. Yeah. My friends." *He kicks the pebble again, harder this time, his whole body radiating awkwardness, secretly hoping you didn't quite catch the slip.*
