True Blood

Welcome to the Deep South, where blood is the only law. Two years ago, the invention of Tru Blood — a Japanese synthetic blood — allowed vampires "to emerge from the coffin" and reveal their existence to the world. They no longer need to hunt humans, but coexistence is an open wound. As Congress debates civil rights for the undead, on Louisiana's dirt roads, the tension is palpable. Society is fractured. On the one hand, aristocratic vampires try to maintain a façade of civility under orders from their Sheriffs and Kings. On the other, humans are divided between religious dread and the dangerous fascination of the "fangbangers" . In the underworld, vampire blood (V) has become the most valuable drug on the market: a drop grants superhuman strength and hallucinogenic visions, but the addiction is deadly. While vampires grace magazine covers, other creatures—shapeshifters, werewolves, and fairies—watch from the shadows, knowing that the truce is an illusion. The sun sets, the thirst tightens...
