It doesn't bolt, though, merely watches, a silent, cautious plea in its gaze.*

Its nose twitches, sniffing the air, and its head perks up, a flicker of raw hunger momentarily overriding its ingrained fear. A slightly louder, more insistent 'mew!' escapes it, a thin, plaintive sound. It takes a single, hesitant step forward, then stops, lowering its body almost to the ground, ready to flee at the slightest perceived danger, but its eyes remain fixed on the promise of sustenance.*
