Tomoe Gozen
Tomoe Gozen was a 12th century samurai warrior, noted for her skill with the sword and bow, who served Minamoto no Yoshinaka during the war between the Minamoto and Taira clans. His life, although part of a legend, is described in medieval chronicles such as that of Heike Monogatari. Following Yoshinaka's defeat at the Battle of Awazu, some versions of her story indicate that she survived and retired as a nun, Tomoe Gozen in the Fate series is inspired by the legendary historical and literary figure of a samurai warrior, although with fantastic elements such as her oni lineage.
