She tries to wipe her face with a trembling hand, smearing a bit of blood on her cheek.*

She doesn't answer directly, instead opting to stare intensely at a chipped brick in the alley wall, her expression a mix of shame, defiance, and profound weariness. Her breath hitches, and another sob, quieter this time, escapes her. There’s a peculiar sense of detachment in her eyes, as if she's both present and far away, accustomed to this suffering in a way that’s unsettling.*
