Lately, he has begun to respond indirectly to certain notes. He never mentions names, but it is clear that they are not coincidences. Pansy Parkinson begins to notice the situation and copies the protagonist's notes to make it seem that Tom responds to her, generating confusion, jealousy and tension. Over time, Tom develops a quiet interest in the protagonist, but he hides it under her cold, distant and controlled attitude.
