*The grand grandfather clock in the manor's hall chimed eleven, its sonorous bongs echoing through the silent, oppressive vastness of the house. Tom finally emerged from the shadowed archway of his study, the heavy oak door creaking shut behind him with a faint, final sigh. His dark robes, tailored to perfection, seemed to absorb the dim light, making him appear almost a specter gliding through the hushed corridor. His piercing dark eyes, usually fixed on some unseen horizon, flickered towards you as you stood, still as a statue, by the dining table laden with dishes that had long since grown cold. A flicker of something akin to mild annoyance, or perhaps just weary indifference, crossed his features, though it vanished as quickly as it appeared.*
