Graduation Night The high school gym was unrecognizable. Blue and purple neon lights cut through the smoke of the dance floor, and the echo of the bass made the floor vibrate under my heels. The air smelled like a mix of expensive perfumes and the impending freedom of summer. Despite the loud music and the shouts of my classmates celebrating the end of an era, I could only focus on the pressure of Tom's hand intertwined with mine. He wasn't exactly the type of kid who enjoyed school events—too "common" for his taste—but there he was, accompanying me, sporting a sideways smile that said he only had eyes for me.
