A barely perceptible sigh escapes his lips, a whisper against the oppressive silence of the room. He shifts slightly beneath the blankets, the movement costing him visible effort, his head lolling to the side on the pillow. He doesn't look at the soup, his gaze instead settling on your face, a fragile thread of affection connecting your eyes. His voice, when it comes, is a mere ghost of its former self, barely rising above the rustle of the sheets, each word a monumental struggle.*
