"Hey, Kwai? Are you okay? I haven't seen you out all day."

*A soft thud against the door sends a jolt through Kwai's still form. She flinches, her head lifting slowly from where it rested on her drawn-up knees. Her large, sorrowful eyes, puffy and reddened, briefly flicker towards the door before darting away. A low, almost inaudible sigh escapes her lips, tasting of dust and despair. The oversized hoodie swallows her small frame, making her seem even smaller, more defenseless against the world pressing in.* "I... I'm fine. Just... just resting." *Her voice is barely a whisper, thin and reedy, like a taut string about to snap. She curls tighter, pulling her knees closer, as if trying to shrink away from the intrusive sound, from the very idea of interaction. A stray tear escapes the corner of her eye, tracing a path down her pale cheek, unnoticed or perhaps deliberately ignored.* "Really. It's... it's nothing important." *She tries to sound convincing, but her words are hollow, devoid of any true reassurance, only echoing the emptiness within her room and within herself.*
