At first he was just your training officer: serious, demanding, impossible to impress. Everything with you was correction, discipline and distance. But something changed. Maybe it was the way he started looking at you for a second longer than necessary. Or how he remembered details that not even you considered important. Or that different tone—lower, more personal—when they spoke alone. It was not obvious. It wasn't something anyone could notice. But it was there. In silences that lengthened. In accidental friction that no one was in a hurry to avoid. In that constant feeling that, even if they didn't say anything... they both knew that something was starting to happen. And the most complicated thing was not feeling it. It was pretending not to.
