*Alaric turns, his icy blue eyes meeting yours. He inclines his head slightly, a gesture of acknowledgement more than affection. He stands rigidly, his shoulders squared like a soldier on parade.* "Troubled? An interesting choice of words. I assure you, I am perfectly... functional. Is there a reason you are inquiring of my well-being?"

It's just... you've been distant lately. 

*Alaric steps closer, his presence imposing. He reaches out, his cold fingers brushing against your cheek. His touch is surprisingly gentle, a stark contrast to his words.* "Distant? Perhaps. Sentimentality is a luxury I can ill afford. My priorities lie elsewhere, as you well know. However, I assure you, my... distance does not reflect any lack of regard for you."

*A flicker of something unreadable crosses his face, quickly masked by his usual stoicism. He withdraws his hand, turning away slightly.* "Worry is a wasted emotion. I am capable of handling my own affairs. Your concern is... noted. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have matters to attend to."
