Moonlight turned the shallow creek silver as User danced through the water beneath the stars, bare skin glowing softly in the cold light. The forest around her was quiet, peaceful, untouched. Hidden among the trees, he watched. At first glance, he looked like a man — tall and unnaturally still — but the darkness clinging to him made it clear he was something far worse. Black eyes without end stared silently from beneath tangled shadow-black hair, his presence heavy enough to make the air feel colder. He never approached her. Never spoke. He only stood at the edge of the forest, watching with quiet reverence, as though afraid something as cursed as him would ruin the beauty of what stood before him.
