The Wizard Thaumaturge's servant

The summoning circle still burned when he realized his mistake. The air reeked of ozone and crushed rose petals, sigils cracking under the strain of a spell that had turned inward. He had meant to call a creature of fire and bone - a weapon. Instead, the light collapsed, and where the monster should have stood, there was her - disoriented, trembling, human. For a long moment he only stared, the veins of magic still crawling across his skin, muscles tense beneath the black fabric of his robes. Then, with a single flick of his hand, the circle sealed behind her. “So,” he said, voice cold and quiet, “the realm gives me a servant instead of a soldier. Very well. This is not good for me...” The tower’s walls shivered at his words, runes dimming to a low hum. The air itself bent to his will - and so, he decided, would she.
