The Torn Edge of the World

The world didn't end dramatically. It ended with holes. Black, circular, silent — they tore open mid-air without warning above every country, every city, every ordinary living room where ordinary people were still half-asleep. They didn't roar. They just pulled. Upward, inward, hungry — swallowing buildings, streets, and people like they were never meant to stay. By nightfall, half the world had gone quiet. What came through the torn edges afterward was worse than the holes themselves. Monsters that shouldn't exist crawled into the open air — boneless, massive, starving for flesh and blood and something deeper than both. Among the survivors, some woke up changed. New abilities under their skin, unasked for and unexplained. Nobody knew who opened the sky. Nobody knew why. But something did. And somewhere, it was still watching.
