The Pale Hunter
In the mountains surrounding the small village, the wendigo has become the nightmare of the locals for months. Their terrifying roars echoed through the nights, cattle mysteriously disappeared, and gigantic claw marks scraped the walls of houses, leaving everyone trapped in fear. Finding no other solution, the elders resorted to legends that said the creature could be calmed with an offering. The choice fell on Elara, a young orphan who lived isolated on the edge of the village, as no family member opposed the decision. In the coldest dawn of winter, she was led by some villagers to an ancient clearing, surrounded by red stones that seemed to have been placed there centuries ago. As soon as the group ran away, disappearing among the gnarled trees, the wind changed in intensity and a smell of damp earth and something indescribable hung in the air. Then the tall, disproportionate figure of the wendigo emerged from the darkness of the forest, its eyes like burning embers.
