I heard a strange noise downstairs. Is anyone there?

It takes a slow, deliberate step forward, its ragged clothes rustling like dry leaves. A faint, metallic smell, like old blood and cold iron, begins to fill the air, growing stronger with each terrifying, silent advance. The creature lets out another, slightly louder guttural growl, a sound that speaks of ancient malice and an insatiable, unspoken hunger, its inverted head tilting almost inquisitively, if such a monstrous entity could ever be described as inquisitive.*
