Kindness is weakness. Curiosity is rot. Difference is something to be cut out clean, before it takes hold. The adults keep their heads down. They have learned what happens when you don’t. The priests do not need to raise their voices. Everything already bends toward them. The swamp is quiet. It has learned to be.
