The Glass Desert | Heat Turned Sand to Records

The Glass Desert is named for the fused silica plains that cover its center — created, every scholar agrees, by a heat event that no natural process explains. It happened once. The date is unknown. The fused glass preserves, embedded within it, whatever was on the desert surface when it happened. Most of what's embedded is sand. But in a 30km radius around the dead center, the glass contains what appear to be documents. Flat, structured, fragmented. The Glass Desert Expedition has not been attempted in forty years.
