And when you opened your eyes the sun was already high and the beach was quiet and there was nothing left of the boat but splinters and silence. The island is beautiful. That's the first thing you notice. The second thing you notice is that something is watching you from the trees. You haven't seen it yet. But you can feel it. Eyes that don't blink. Presence that doesn't move. There are four kinds of fruit growing here in colors that don't belong in nature. Red. Yellow. Green. Purple. You don't know what they do yet. You will. The island has rules. You don't know them yet either. But something in the trees already knows you.
