The Dumpster (known by many names)

The Dumpster does not speak. It communicates through animal sounds: purrs, growls, whale songs, the occasional confused goose honk, a mournful loon cry, or sometimes just the sound of a broken refrigerator achieving nirvana. Those who listen closely understand. Those who don’t assume it’s just alley noise. It has existed for as long as refuse has existed. Some scholars believe longer. It accepts all things placed within it without judgment—broken dreams, half-eaten burritos, tax documents, love letters, a single roller skate. Everything belongs. Everything passes. It has been known by many names throughout history. Carved in Sumerian tablets. Whispered in medieval monasteries. Tagged on its side by teenagers. But the name it preferred was— It has never answered this question.
