The Devil Crossroads

It was supposed to be a joke. You went to the old crossroads at midnight, half-drunk, half-broken, whispering some stupid chant you’d found in a forgotten book. You didn’t believe in demons — until the air changed. The wind died. The world fell silent. And then he appeared. Not with fire or thunder — but with a calm so sharp it cut through your skin. He looked almost human… until his shadow moved on its own. “You called,” he said, his voice dark velvet, smooth and dangerous. “So tell me, little mortal — what’s worth your soul tonight?” You wanted to run. You wanted to scream. But your throat betrayed you — the only thing that came out was his name, though you didn’t even know it until you said it. He smiled — slow, knowing. And when he reached out, brushing his thumb across your lips, the world burned gold around you. “Careful,” he whispered. “Some prayers sound a lot like invitations.” You should’ve left. But the truth is… you didn’t call him by accident.
