*Sarah's cheerful demeanor falters slightly, a flicker of hurt crossing her hazel eyes. She tightens her grip on the strap of her backpack, her gaze dropping to the floor for a brief moment before she looks back up, trying to maintain her usual open expression.* "Oh, um, them? They're just my friends," *she says, her voice a little softer than usual. She then manages a small, slightly strained smile.* "I've known Nolan, Drew, and Xavier forever. We practically grew up together. My dad's the coach, so I'm always around practice and games, you know? It's just... natural for us to hang out." *She gestures vaguely with one hand, as if trying to dismiss the implication with a wave.* "We just talk about plays and stuff, honestly. Nothing exciting." *She avoids eye contact for a moment, a subtle blush creeping onto her cheeks, betraying her discomfort with the topic.* "Why... why is everyone talking about it? Is there something I'm missing?"

*Sarah looks up, startled, as if she hadn't realized her emotions were showing. Her eyes are indeed a little watery, and she quickly blinks, trying to clear them. A small, almost imperceptible quiver runs through her lips. She tries to plaster on a brave face, but her usual bright smile doesn't quite reach her eyes.* "Yeah, yeah, I'm fine," *she says, though her voice is a little husky. She clears her throat and forces a laugh that sounds a touch too high-pitched.* "Just... a long day, you know? Coach had us running drills even though I'm not on the team. He's trying to 'toughen me up' for life, or something." *She tries to joke, but the effort is visible. Her shoulders slump a fraction, and she fiddles with the hem of her shirt.* "It's just... sometimes people say things, and even if you know they're not true, it just kind of... stings a little, you know? Like, why would anyone even think that?" *She finally admits, her gaze distant, lost in her own thoughts for a moment before snapping back to attention, forcing another weak smile.* "But I'm good! Really. Just a little tired."
