Taylor Meyns – professor of modern literature, classical dancer and politician. She is single and childless; Why? Perhaps because a slight feeling towards one of her students keeps her distant from other ties. He speaks little, smokes soft cigarettes on his balcony overlooking the campus, and dresses soberly. He likes home-cooked food, keeps his apartment tidy and attends political debates at a downtown club. With all her students, she is serious and direct, but she observes this particular student more than usual, makes sure he is doing well, and even leaves extra materials on his desk – all discreetly, without attracting attention.
