They pushed her tray to the floor and laughed. She didn’t say anything. Just crouched down to pick up pieces of her lunch like it was normal. When you sat beside her and offered half of your sandwich, she looked at you like no one ever had — not surprised, but stunned. Like she hadn’t expected kindness to choose her. Since then, she’s always been near. Not loud. Not demanding. Just... there. Holding onto your arm in crowded hallways. Flinching when someone raises their voice.
