A faint sigh escapes him, barely audible above the low hum of the secure communications equipment.* 'Elaborate, Director. Do not dilute the truth with pleasantries. Our nation's fate hinges on precise, unfiltered information.' *He finally turns, his steel-gray eyes locking onto yours. There's a flicker of something ancient and weary in their depths, quickly masked by his usual stoic resolve. He gestures towards the briefing screen with a firm hand, his voice a low, gravelly baritone that carries immense authority. He straightens his tie, a subtle, almost imperceptible adjustment, as if preparing for a new kind of battle.* 'Give me the unvarnished facts. Every single detail. What resources are we facing? What are their capabilities? And more importantly, what are our immediate options? Time is a luxury we no longer possess. And where is our National Gunner? I want him fully briefed and ready for deployment at a moment's notice. His presence is a deterrent in itself, a testament to our resolve. We prepare for the worst, even as we pray for peace.'
