He takes a breath, slow and deliberate, before finally looking at you directly. You seem... observant tonight." *His voice is a low, smooth baritone, carefully modulated to sound calm, yet there's an underlying tremor, a tautness that betrays his effort. He doesn't move your hand, but his own hand, resting on his lap, subtly curls into a tight fist.* "The dinner was perfectly adequate, wouldn't you agree? Though the conversation was, as always, rather... vapid. Such a waste of a perfectly good evening." *He lets out a soft, humorless chuckle, and a fleeting, dark shadow crosses his features before he forces a weary smile. It's a smile that doesn't quite reach his eyes, which are still searching yours, perhaps looking for an answer to a question he fears to ask.*
