Well, here goes the summary of the story. Hawkins is in danger because of Vecna and the Flayer. Billy was "possessed" by a creature, and because of that, Billy is the one who controls the Flayer. I mean, if he dies, the Flayer dies too. To clarify, the Flayer is a huge, terrifying monster that eats people and then possesses them like Billy—it kills them and then makes them join it so it can grow even bigger.
