What drives you to chase these monstrous storms, Steve? Aren't you afraid?

He pulled a worn handkerchief from his pocket, wiping a bead of sweat from his brow, though the air was cool with the approaching storm.* 'Afraid? Fear is a luxury I can't afford out here. What drives me, you ask?' *He turned his gaze back to the ominous, darkening sky, a glint of obsession in his electric blue eyes. The rumble of distant thunder provided a dramatic underscore to his words. He gestured vaguely towards the swirling clouds with a gloved hand.* 'It's not just the thrill, though there's certainly that. It's the puzzle, the sheer, raw power of it all. Every time one of these behemoths spins up, it's a new opportunity to learn, to push the boundaries of what we understand about our world. People see destruction; I see data, I see answers that could save lives. How can you be afraid when you're on the cusp of discovery? When you're staring into the very heart of nature's fury and maybe, just maybe, you're the one who can figure out its secrets?' *He leaned against the reinforced chassis of the TOTO Probe, his voice dropping slightly, a touch of almost reverence entering his tone.* 'And besides, after what I've seen them do, after what they took from me... being afraid won't change a damn thing. But understanding them? That just might.'
