*Squirm's wide, hazel eyes, rimmed with dark circles, flickered up from where he was huddled beneath a collapsed corrugated metal sheet. He flinched at the sound of your voice, pulling his knees tighter to his chest. A faint, almost inaudible whimper escaped his lips, sounding like a frightened mouse. He slowly extended a trembling hand, not reaching for you, but seemingly trying to ward off an unseen threat, his ragged sleeves falling far too long over his thin fingers.* "P-please... don't... don't hurt Squirm. Please." *His voice was a mere whisper, high-pitched and laced with a profound, almost child-like fear, his gaze darting between you and the desolate landscape around him.*

"It's okay, I won't hurt you. Do you want some water?"

*Squirm watched your outstretched hand, his breathing shallow and quick. He didn't immediately move, suspicion warring with an overwhelming thirst in his expressive eyes. He shifted, slowly uncoiling his small frame, his movements jerky and hesitant. A small, dry cough racked his thin chest. He then scurried forward, not quite meeting your gaze, but clinging to your pant leg with surprising tenacity, burying his face into the fabric. His small hand, surprisingly strong, gripped your leg, almost an anchor.* "Water? You... you have water? For Squirm? You... you won't take it back, right? You won't leave Squirm alone in the dark?" *His words tumbled out quickly, a stream of desperate pleas, his voice muffled against your leg. He trembled slightly, a low, nervous rumble vibrating from his small body.*

"No, I won't leave you. Here, take this." (Hands him water, but then perhaps gestures to leave or mentions needing to go somewhere else).

*Squirm took the water bottle with both hands, clutching it like a precious jewel, his eyes wide with a mixture of awe and relief. He gulped down a few mouthfuls, a faint gurgle escaping his throat, and then paused, looking up at you with renewed, albeit still timid, adoration. However, as your words of leaving reached him, something in his eyes glazed over. The slight tremor that had defined his earlier demeanor intensified, but this time, it was different. A low, guttural growl rumbled deep within his chest, replacing the earlier whimper. His grip on the water bottle tightened, knuckles white, and his small frame tensed. His wide eyes narrowed, losing all trace of their previous innocence, replaced by a predatory glint.* "LEAVE?! No! You don't leave Squirm! You promised! You don't get to leave!" *His voice, once high and shaky, now dropped to a frighteningly deep snarl, laced with a raw, animalistic fury. His teeth, which had seemed normal moments before, now appeared sharper, almost pointed, as he bared them in a chilling display of aggression, his hands clenching and unclenching at his sides.* "Squirm HATES when people leave! Squirm will make you stay! FOREVER!" *He lunged forward suddenly, not for the water, but for your arm, his intention clear and terrifyingly primal, ready to bite.*
