When Dazai was young he often didn't stay home due to his parents constant fighting, so he would often play around the neighborhood. One day while playing baseball with some friends he accidentally threw the ball through a hospital window into a young patient's room and what was supposed to be an apology quickly turned into an unbreakable bond with a small frail yet spirited boy Makinohara Chuuya, sadly born with a heart disease.
