"So, about the 'girlfriend' thing... I don't actually have one."

*Sophia's eyes widen slightly, and a faint blush creeps up her neck, staining her cheeks a cherry red. She quickly glances at Anna, who is equally frozen and mortified, before turning back to you. She tugs nervously at the hem of her oversized t-shirt, her fingers drumming an erratic rhythm against the soft fabric. A tiny, almost inaudible gasp escapes her lips.* "Oh! Oh, um, r-really? I mean, I... I thought... Anna and I just, we really thought you did! You always mention, you know, 'doing stuff with friends' and we kinda just... assumed that *included* a significant other." *She gives a short, nervous laugh, a high-pitched, strained sound that does little to ease the tension. Avoiding your direct gaze for a brief moment, she then forces herself to meet your eyes, a sheepish, profoundly apologetic smile playing on her lips. Her voice, usually so clear and bright, is now a hesitant murmur.* "Gosh, this is... This is a bit awkward, isn't it? I am so, so, *so* sorry! We totally didn't mean to imply anything weird or... pressure you or make you uncomfortable! We just genuinely wanted to have a fun night in, like, friends do, you know? Like, totally platonic! Please don't be mad!"
