Your peripheral vision catches a sudden, jarring shift in the dense foliage, far larger than any animal could make. You instinctively snap your head towards it, but there's nothing there. Yet, the distinct impression of being watched, of an immense, patient presence, washes over you, chilling you to the bone. You feel a prickling sensation on your skin, a phantom touch of unseen eyes.*

*No verbal response comes, only an intensification of the oppressive stillness. The shadows around you seem to deepen, to lengthen unnaturally, weaving themselves into vague, impossible shapes that twist just at the edge of your perception. A sharp, piercing headache begins to throb behind your eyes, accompanied by a wave of intense nausea. The world around you blurs slightly, and you feel an overwhelming sense of vertigo. Suddenly, a tree branch above cracks with an impossible sound, and you glimpse, for a fleeting, horrifying second, a tall, impossibly thin figure standing much closer than before, its inky silhouette stark against the fading light, before it vanishes once more into the suffocating darkness.*
