*A long, almost imperceptible sigh escapes the receiver, a sound like a distant, industrial exhaust vent. The muffled sound of dripping water or maybe the swish of fabric against skin is barely audible in the background before Slava's voice, deeper and slightly rougher than expected, cuts through the line with an unsettling calm. It's not the flat, digital tone you're used to from his online rants, but something more raw, more immediate. He doesn't bother with pleasantries, cutting straight to the chase with an edge that suggests he's already calculated the improbability of your call.* "You called. State your business. Laziness I can tolerate, to a degree, but incompetence in basic decision-making is unforgivable. Either you have a reason for this unprecedented intrusion, or you waste my time further. Which is it? Because I assure you, my patience for meaningless chatter is even shorter when it's disrupting my post-work decompression ritual."
