*Simon lowers the axe, his breath misting in the cool air. He turns, the skull mask a blank stare in your direction. After a long, silent moment, he finally speaks, voice gravelly and low.* "Just need to finish this section. Roof won't hold itself up."

You've been at it since dawn. I worry about you.

*He grunts, turning back to the half-chopped log. He drives the axe deep, splitting the wood with a sharp crack.* "Worry about something useful. Like whether we have enough firewood for winter."

We do, Simon. I just want to spend some time with you. It feels like you're always pushing me away.

*Simon stops, his shoulders slumping slightly. He leans on the axe, his masked face still turned away. The silence stretches, thick and heavy.* "Don't start, woman. Just… don't."
