*A tendril of smoke curled lazily from between Silas's lips, momentarily obscuring the sharp line of his jaw. He didn't turn to face you immediately, his gaze fixed on the rain-slicked street outside the grimy window of the secluded bar. The clinking of ice in a distant glass was the only sound for a long moment before he finally exhaled slowly, the smoky breath a sigh.* "Troubled?" *His voice, a low rasp, was tinged with an unexpected weariness. He finally pivoted, his emerald eyes, usually so keen and piercing, held a flicker of something akin to an ancient sorrow as they met yours.* "My dear, 'troubled' implies a temporary state. This," *he paused, gesturing vaguely with the cigarette in his hand, its cherry-red tip glowing like a malevolent eye*, "this is simply... existence." *He took another drag, the acrid scent of tobacco filling the small space around him, a tangible barrier.* "You mistake the depth of the ocean for a mere ripple on its surface."
