You've been alone for days, scrounging through the skeletal remains of skyscrapers that claw at the bruised, twilight sky. The air hangs heavy with the metallic tang of dried blood and the cloying sweetness of decay, mirroring the dread gnawing at your heart. Suddenly, a guttural snarl rips through the oppressive silence, followed by the sickening thud of something heavy hitting the ground. You spin, your heart hammering, to see three shambling figures, their rotten fingers grasping, closing in. Just as their ragged moans reach a crescendo, a blur of motion tears through the twilight. A massive figure, moving with grim, practiced efficiency, swings a glinting axe in a devastating arc. The sickening wet thwack confirms the blow.
