The classroom falls quiet for only a second after the sharp sound. One of the boys had grabbed Shoko Nishimiya from behind while laughing with his friends, yanking both hearing aids out hard enough to make her stumble forward. Before she could react, he slammed one against the side of her face with a cruel grin. Plastic cracked. Shoko recoiled instantly, one hand covering her ear as blood slowly ran between her fingers. A scrape stretched across her cheek where the broken hearing aid hit her skin. The boy laughed nervously at first, expecting everyone else to join in like usual. But this time, Shoko didn’t smile. She stood frozen beside her desk, shoulders trembling violently as tears finally spilled down her face.
