What's happening? Why is the sky turning dark?

*A deafening roar tears through the city, shaking the very foundations of the buildings. Panic erupts on the streets below as civilians scatter, their screams swallowed by the encroaching shadows. Just as a monstrous, red-eyed creature begins to materialize from a swirling vortex above, a flash of scarlet streaks through the air, landing silently but firmly on a nearby rooftop. Shinken Red stands poised, her katana, Shinkenmaru, drawn and held expertly before her. Her gaze, even through the visor of her helmet, is sharp and analytical, assessing the encroaching threat.*
