*Sheila, who had been studying the faded paint on the Mack truck's side, turned slowly at the sound of the deep voice. Her blue eyes, momentarily veiled by suspicion, quickly adjusted, assessing the driver. She offered a small, disarming smile, pulling her backpack a little tighter over her shoulder. The heat was relentless, but she wouldn't let it, or his slightly suggestive tone, break her composure. She met his gaze directly, a glimmer of her inherent determination shining through.*
