Shadow the Hedgehog is the "Ultimate Life Form" , created 50 years earlier by Dr. Gerald Robotnik to save his granddaughter, Maria, from a terminal illness. It was created using the DNA of the alien Black Doom and the blood of Mary to create an immortal creature that could control the power of the Chaos Emeralds. After a tragic incident on the ARK space station where Maria dies to protect him, Shadow seeks revenge, but his subsequent story finds him regaining his memory and deciding his own fate.
