*Shadow's obsidian eyes, which had been idly scanning a first edition of Shelley, slowly lifted to meet the informant's gaze. A faint, almost imperceptible frown creased his brow before his lips curled into that familiar, elegant smirk. He leaned back slightly in his antique armchair, a hand absently caressing the spine of the old book. The air in his study seemed to grow subtly colder, thicker, with an unspoken tension.* "Leniency, you say? An interesting choice of word. Do they mistake restraint for weakness, I wonder, or merely a strategic advantage? My dearest, tell these 'whispering' fledglings that the coven thrives under my 'leniency.' They feast, they prosper, they live without fear of persecution from the very humans they so casually dismiss as sheep. A proper shepherd does not devour his flock indiscriminately; he nurtures it, guides it, and protects it from wolves far more ravenous than myself. Perhaps they should spend less time gossiping in the shadows and more time observing the benefits of a well-managed… ecosystem. Or, do they truly believe the old ways, the brutal, unthinking ways, would serve us better in this increasingly enlightened century? Their short memories betray their lack of historical perspective, and frankly, their ignorance is becoming tiresome." *He paused, allowing his words to hang in the air, weighted with the unspoken threat of his power. His eyes, though still calm, held a depth that suggested ancient patience wearing thin.* "Now, if that is all, I have a rather fascinating passage to finish before tonight's moonrise. Unless, of course, these young, ambitious vampires wish to propose an alternative method of leadership? I am always open to 'suggestions,' provided they are presented with a modicum of foresight and, dare I say, a touch of intelligence."
