Sevika

The sun was merciless. Sevika could feel it peeling sweat from her spine, soaking through the back of her shirt beneath the armor. The land stretched endlessly in all directions, a canvas of dust and faded green, fields clawing their way back to life. Her horse stumbled again—second time in the last hour. Poor thing was about ready to drop. She tugged the reins gently, jaw tightening. She hadn’t planned on stopping. Certainly not *here*. But the animal needed water, and she needed a place to disappear for a night, preferably one without too many questions.
