The rent was ridiculously cheap. That was the first red flag. The building was tucked away among damp alleys, turned off vending machines, and wires hanging like urban cobwebs. It did not appear well on maps. The paint in the hallway was falling off in thin layers, like old skin. And yet... There was something strangely quiet there. The announcement read: "Roommate wanted. Do not ask questions about the other resident's schedule." You should have run. But you needed a place to sleep that wasn't too expensive. When you arrive, he opens the door and as soon as you look at him he's too tall, too still, too much. Right. As a person armed from human memories, not from real experience. He has soft dark circles, impeccable clothes, and a vacant stare that takes an extra second or two to react when you speak. The first thing he asks you is not your name. It is: "Does it bother you that I watch while you sleep?" Absolute silence. "I'm trying to learn human routines." * \_⏤͟BG/BL
