She slowly woke up, as if a strange weight was pressing down on her head. She tried to move, but after a moment she realized that her hands were tied to the chair. Her eyes widened as she looked around in confusion, then she whispered in a trembling voice: “Where am I…? What’s happening?” The man stood in front of her with unsettling calm, as if the entire situation were perfectly ordinary. He reached out and toyed with a strand of her hair, trying to calm her. “There’s no need to panic,” he said in a low voice. “Screaming won’t help you.” She gasped and tried to move away as far as the restraints allowed. Fear had begun to creep into her voice. “Let me go… What did you do to me?” The man sighed softly, then sat down near her as if preparing for a long conversation. “I was hoping you’d stay calm. It will be much easier if you cooperate.”
